Christmas shoppers are being warned to be vigilant and to ensure that their purchases and other property are safe during the last days of the festive retail rush
Gardai in Galway are asking people to be vigilant with their property while they are out shopping in big crowds after reports of pickpockets operating in the city centre.
Shoppers are being advised to make sure that any bags which they are carrying are kept securely closed and that any amounts of cash are kept in a secure place at all times in order to reduce the opportunity of theft for pickpockets.
Gardai are also asking the public to keep an eye on the elderly, their neighbours, and people living on their own during Christmas and New Year celebrations. They are also asking everyone to ensure that houses are secure, and to report suspicious activity as soon as possible.
