Flood alleviation measures which have yet to be completed in Claregalway and Carnmore will be the subject of a meeting in Leinster House next week.
Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish is to meet Brian Hayes, Minister of State for the Office of Public Works, on Thursday February 27.
According to Dep Grealish, the Minister has visited Claregalway on two occasions, is fully briefed on these measures, and must allocate funding and allow work to commence.
Following severe flooding in Claregalway and Carnmore in 2009, flood alleviation measures were identified, but to date the only work which has been carried out is the replacement of the Crusheen bridge and the installation of a flood eye on the Claregalway bridge.
The OPW, the Galway County Council, and Inland Fisheries Ireland have carried out detailed studies and prepared a report for the OPW outlining other measures which are necessary to prevent homes in the area flooding again.
