Rinville Park boasts the county’s first outdoor gym

The first outdoor public gym in Galway will be unveiled in Oranmore on Monday.

The first of its kind in a public area in the county, the new gym is located in Rinville Park in Oranmore and will be launched by the Mayor of County Galway, Liam Carroll.

Outdoor gyms have become popular in Ireland and have been installed in a number of counties. In the near future the Galway County Council will launch a similar facility in Loughrea.

The outdoor gym comprises eight exercise machines set on a tarmacadam surface alongside the walkway, and offer users 11 different exercises targeting different areas of the body. Each machine has an information plate attached outlining how the exercise is performed and the muscle areas of the body that the exercise is targeting.

Although outdoor gyms have become popular in Ireland, this is the first in Galway. However the county council plans to launch a second facility in Loughrea soon.

Galway County Council has provided this facility with financial assistance from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sports. The 100 acre Rinville Park is jointly owned by Galway County Council and Galway City Council.
