Margo Kelly has been selected as the second Fine Gael candidate, alongside John Walsh, in the six seat Galway City East ward.
Ms Kelly is married with two grown-up children. She is actively involved in parish activities in Renmore and in working with the elderly. She is also a former scout leader and member of the ICA.
With Fine Gael currently around 30 per cent in the polls, the party, theoretically, has two quotas in Galway City East, enough to see Mr Walsh and Ms Kelly each take a seat in May’s Local Elections.
However GCE is one of Galway’s most competitive wards, where the Independent former PD candidates Terry O’Flaherty and Declan McDonnell are near certain to hold their seats. Fianna Fáil is also strongly challenging to take two, while Sinn Féin’s Mairéad Farrell is another contender.
If Ms Kelly puts in a strong campaign, she could battle for one of the last two seats in the ward with FF’s Alan Cheevers and SF’s Ms Farrell.
