City council asks public ‘Do you like beaches?

Galway people’s opinions, ideas, and memories of the city’s beaches are being sought for a major new student-led project from NUI Galway and the Galway City Council.

The I Like Beaches project, which aims to enhance awareness of the environmental and socio-economic value of the city’s beaches, will hold a public meeting in the Galway Business School, Salthill, on Tuesday February 18 at 8pm.

The student team is looking for ideas on why beaches are important, what are the threats to them, how do they benefit the local economy, are they part of our culture, are they under or over used, and what does the public think of our beach amenities? They are also seeking pictures, stories, and memories of Galway’s beaches.

The students expect the project to produce environmental education boards for the Salthill beaches. Those interested in taking part in the meeting should contact 089 - 2227600, [email protected], or see www.facebook.com/ILIKEBeachesGalway All are welcome.
