LEGO experts to descend upon city next week

With the country getting well and truly battered by nature since the turn of the year, the theme, 'Nature's Fury', could not be more apt! On Saturday February 15, Galway will prepare to be overcome by Nature's Fury once again when hundreds of LEGO experts, architects, engineers and enthusiasts will descend on to the city to exhibit their talents and employ their genius to compete for the 8th annual Irish FIRST Lego League Champion title.

This year's day of battle promises to provide even more entertainment for the onlookers as 28 teams from all over the country get together in the lights, noise and adrenaline fueled Radisson Blu Hotel for a full day of combat.

The projects on display are breath-taking in their creativity and depth and are wide ranging in their concepts. The standard amongst Galway schools is remarkable and among this year's entries is a school from near Ballinasloe, who have developed an APP in response to the horrendous flooding of the town in 2009.

A group from Spiddal are also developing an APP in response to wildfires which have wrecked havoc on their local community. Previous winners, the Termin8trs from Moycullen have produced the 'Disaster Master', a bundle which includes an app and lots of other useful survival tools to help people deal with the natural catastrophe of storms and flooding.

These projects and much more will be on display all day on Saturday February 15 from 10:30am to 3:30pm. The general public are welcome to come along and watch all the action - but are warned to be prepared for some high octane entertainment! Entrance is free and open from 10am to 3:30pm on the day - all are welcome!
