KPMG — at the heart of commerce in the west for almost four decades

Leading accountants and business advisers KPMG have been at the heart of commerce in the West of Ireland for almost 35 years. While the economic environment has changed immensely in that period some things have stayed the same.

One of these constant themes is the need for timely and relevant support and advice on a range of matters for all businesses- regardless of scale or sector.

From its Galway base, KPMG works with businesses in the Border Midland and West Region (BMW ) and the Mid West region– helping them manage their audit, tax and advisory issues in a professional and commercially focussed manner.

According to Brian Thornton, who leads the 70 strong KPMG team in Galway “One of the most striking features about our client base is their huge variety. We work with leading multinationals and we also work with dynamic family and privately owned businesses. They vary in size but they all appreciate our commitment to ensuring highly relevant support in helping them achieve their business objectives.”

Mr Thornton believes that one of the key factors for the firm’s success has been the quality of the people at KPMG. He says “We recruit exceptional people to add to the great strengths of the team, and invest significantly in training.”

The latter point validated by KPMG’s exceptional accounting exams performance, whereby we consistently achieve top place in the final exams of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Mr Thonrton says; “This high level of exam success helps us attract the best people and it also shows our clients just how committed we are to ensuring they get the best advice.”

Understanding client issues and the wider business environment has always been one of KPMG’s great attributes. Jim Murrin, formerly of IDA in Galway recently joined KPMG as a consultant – highlighting the firms commitment to staying abreast of all of the issues affecting both the multinational and wider business community.
