THE GALWAY ACTORS Workshop will host a series of classes for the New Year, with all courses starting on Monday January 20 in the Anno Santo Hotel, Salthill.
Introduction to Acting is a beginners/refreshers course on Tuesdays (7pm - 9pm ), covering all the basics through games, exercises, and improvisations.
Develop Acting Technique (Mondays, 7pm - 9pm ), is for those who have done a beginners course before. It will examine the Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and Meisner techniques.
Comedy and Tragedy (Wednesdays, 7pm - 9pm ), is for those with some acting experience. The course covers theatrical styles, dialogue, characterisation, movement, line learning, costume choice, and props. It will culminate in a public showcase performance.
Advanced Performance (Thursdays, 7pm to 9pm ), is for those with stage experience. It will explore a specific play and students will be encouraged to develop their own interpretation of the characters. There will be a public showcase performance.
All classes run for 12 weeks. Courses cost €200/170 and €350/300 for those wishing to do two courses. There is a 10 per cent discount for any student who recommends a friend.
There will also be the masterclass, A Big Day of Play, an improv theatre intensive with acclaimed performer and facilitator Orla McGovern. It takes place from 11am to 6pm on Saturday February 8. The cost is €60/50. There will also be a weekend masterclasses in voice with Max Hafler and Acting for Camera.
