The new Suzuki S-Cross has been rated one of Europe’s safest cars, according to new independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP.
Suzuki’s new C-segment crossover has been highly rated among the five-star vehicles tested by Euro NCAP in 2013, achieving an above-average overall result. The S-CROSS performed notably well on its pedestrian protection, the top-class rating in total score for newly adopted test methodology that took effect this year.
Euro NCAP now releases one overall star rating with a maximum of five stars. The number of stars reflects how well a vehicle performs in all four areas: adult protection, child safety, pedestrian protection and safety assist.
The body structure and occupant restraint systems on the S-Cross are developed to meet current and anticipated crash safety standards, offering optimal protection in real life situations.The new S-Cross features Suzuki’s total effective control technology concept for occupant-protecting impact absorption and low weight. Extensive use of high-tensile steel for key parts helps to keep the body light and enhances the vehicle’s crashworthiness substantially.
The new S-Cross’s body incorporates a large proportion of high-tensile steel for strength and lightness. The stiff mountings of the front struts and suspension frame provide greater handling stability. A high-rigidity body is fundamental to handling, comfort, safety, NVH performance and every other aspect of a car’s behaviour. Suzuki ensures best possible safety on the new S-Cross by synchronizing active and passive systems.
The active safety equipment includes a speed limiter, which prevents the car from exceeding a driver-set speed; an ESP®, which promotes stability; and seatbelt reminder for all seats including back seats. (ESP® is a registered trademark of Daimler AG. )
The passive safety equipment on the S-Cross starts with seven airbags, which offer protection in the event of frontal, lateral or rear impact; seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters. The seat and head restraint provides good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. In addition, bonnet shape and new structures for the cowl top, wipers and bumpers provide impact absorption which lessens the degree of harm if the car comes into contact with a pedestrian.
