Funding of €20,000 for improvements to the Ballyloughane beach road

Improvements are to be carried out on Ballyloughane beach road following representations made to Galway City Council to councillor Terry O’Flaherty who confirmed yesterday that the sum of €20,000 has been provided in the road works budget programme for next year.

“The narrow roadway and particularly the bend at the entrance to the beach require some improvements. The funding secured will now go towards widening and some safety measures which is long overdue as it is now well over two years since I first lobbied for this area.

“During the warm summer the double yellow lines that were placed on this narrow roadway following my then representations were ignored by some motorists using the beach and a dangerous situation could prevail due to constant parking on the lines.

“Also on the road down to Ballyloughane Beach I am also pleased to say the city council will shortly mark out pedestrian lines on the road under the narrow railway bridge and this is a most welcome development for the safety of those walking to the beach.”
