IRISH ARTISTS living in Berlin, a host of major names in the Irish art world, and numerous emerging young talent are exhibiting across Galway city.
Neither Here Nor There, is an exhibition which highlights the work of 10 contemporary Irish artists who have migrated to Berlin over the past 20 years.
Curated by Jane Hughes and Enda O’Donoghue, it runs at the Galway Arts Centre, Dominick Street, until January 11. It features work by Mark Curran, Benjamin de Burca, Barbara Wagner, Maurice Doherty, David Hedderman, Jane Hughes, Sophie Iremonger, Eoin Llewellyn, LiFeLooP (aka Séamus O’Donnell ), Enda O’Donoghue, and David O’Kane.
Each of the 10 artists addresses issues of history, tradition, uncertain spaces, meaning and intimacy in an array of styles and media, including painting, radio receivers and two mini-FM transmitters, video installation, photography and texts, drawings and performance.
The exhibition also includes a reading by Alan Cunningham from his debut novella, Count from Zero to One Hundred, published by Penned in the Margins (London ) at 2pm on Friday December 20.
The Kenny Gallery is currently hosting an exhibition of several hundred artworks in various media at its gallery in Liosbán. It includes work by Fran McCann, Jim Kinch, Manus Walsh, Gertrude Degenhardt, Mike Bernard, Kenneth Webb, John Coll, and Jane Seymour.
Kenny’s is also using this exhibition to introduce the work of young artists such as Luke McMullan, Therese Healy Kelly, Yassine Imejjat, Paddy D’Arcy, and Kate Buckley. See www.TheKennyGallery.ie for more information.
Picnolepsy, an exhibition of new work by Eleanor Phillips, Matthew Sutton, Arlene McPadden, Emma Johnston, and Laura Maloney, is running at the 126 Gallery, Flood Street, until Friday December 20. The artists are recent graduates from the GMIT and Limerick School of Art and Design.
