Galwegians RFC marks 50 years at Glenina with a day-long celebration on Saturday.
To mark the special occasion, there will be a full list of of events, culminating with two senior games under floodlights on Saturday evening.
The action starts at 1pm where there will be a cake-cutting ceremony, involving President John Gaffney, club captain Brian McClearn, and ex-president Michael Heaslip, who was captain in 1963 when Wegians made the move to Glenina.
A lunch will be held at 3pm, followed by Galwegians’ Ulster Bank division 2a game against Old Crescent, which kicks off at 5pm. This will be followed by a barbecue at 6.30pm, and then a Connacht Senior League fixture J1B fixture against Creggs at 7.30pm.
All current and former friends and players of Galwegians are welcome on the day to join in the celebrations.
Galwegians first moved in to the Glenina base on November 22,1963, which will be remembered as the day JFK was assassinated. It was re-named Crowley Park in the 1980s after club stalwart and ex IRFU President CP Crowley, and despite several planned and failed attempts to re-locate in recent years due to swelling player numbers, Glenina has remained as the heart and soul of the club ever since.

All Ireland League fixtures
Galwegians will be looking to maintain their push for promotion when they host Old Crescent at 5pm.
Currently in fourth place, they are six points off leaders Derry City in division 2A, and will see this as a real opportunity to close the gap and celebrate the club’s 50 years on the Dublin Road.
Fellow Galway outfit Corinthians head to Belfast to face Harlequins and they will be looking to return to winning ways immediately after their defeat to leaders Terenure last weekend at Cloonacuaneen.
It was not the defeat that came as a shock, but the manner of it - a walloping 57-10 that no one saw coming. It is the first defeat in 16 Ulster Bank League games for Phil Pretorious’ side that dropped into third place behind Buccaneers as a result.
They will need to put that result behind them, consider it a once-off bad day at the office, and refocus.
