Sinn Féin to host lecture and music event

Sinn Féin’s Galway City East candidate Mairéad Farrell will hold a Christmas event tomorrow, featuring a historical talk followed by music.

The event, which takes place in Monroe’s, Dominick Street, at 8pm, will involve a talk on Brian Campbell, the 19 years old who was shot dead in 1983 by SAS soldiers in County Tyrone.

“The death of Brian Campbell provides a crucial context to the events of the past 50 years in the north of Ireland and to the acts carried out by people from unionist and republican communities during this period of Irish history,” says Ms Farrell. “It is of utmost importance to recognise and understand the various political, social and cultural dynamics of Irish history, especially in relation to the six counties, so the peace process in the North can move forward successfully.”

Barry McNally, who works for an ex-prisoners group in Tyrone helping those in question to re-integrate within their communities, will deliver a piece about the life of Brian Campbell and a presentation will be made to a representative of the Campbell family in Galway. The presentation will be followed by folk music with Liam Lappin.

All are welcome to the event.
