Kenna staying with United

So following a month's debate and deliberation Jeff Kenna has opted to ink a new deal with Galway United.

Heavily linked with Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk, Cork City, Huddersfield Town, and Oxford United Kenna and assistant Ian Foster return to Galway in early January to commence plans for a tricky 2009 campaign.

Despite all the recent speculation Kenna is intent on making a positive impression. "I had a number of things to consider since the end of the season and I am grateful to Galway United for allowing me the opportunity to do that.

"The best thing at this stage is to build on the progress we have made at Galway United and to that end I am really looking forward to the start of the new season."

With the club opting for a part-time set up Kenna faces an onerous task to stitch a competitive squad together on a vastly reduced budget. The manner in which Galway staged a remarkable recovery mission provides a drop of hope, but similar pluck will need to be shown in the spring when Friday night fare returns.
