The O’Briens on DVD

THE O’BRIENS, Ireland’s first independently funded romcom which was filmed digitally in Headford, County Galway, is out now on DVD.

The film, which is the directorial debut of Richard Waters, tells the story of Pat O’Brien (Tommy O'Neill ), who, after the death of his wife, summons his daughter Una (Slaine Kelly ) and two sons Fionn (Liam McMahon ) and Gareth (Emmett Hughes ) back home toGalway, and in the process a lot of family secrets are revealed. Cue eccentric behaviour, romantic entanglements, and much laughter.

The film was shot over 22 days in 2012, is the first feature production by Saoirse Films Ltd, was independently financed with co-funding by Star Djs, Lansmere Films, and Mist Media. It was written by actor/producers Slaine Kelly (The Tudors ) and Emmett Hughes.

The O’Briens debuted at the 2013 Newport Beach Film Festival as the Irish spotlight and won the festival’s Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking award.

FilmIreland praised its “bright and riotous ride emitting charm and humour”, while the Mail on Sunday said “I laughed, I cried, and I remembered how great it is to be Irish.”
