Electrical Concepts from Oughterard won its first interfirms county title when its team defeated reigning champions Boston Scientific by 2-15 to 1-13 in an entertaining final in the Corofin GAA.
Electrical Concepts laid the groundwork in the opening half when John Donnellan rolled back the years and finished with an impressive 10-point haul. Another hero from 1998, Kevin Walsh, pulled the strings at centre field particularly in the first half.
Boston opened the scoring with a Kieran Comer free, but John Donnellan quickly replied before Niall Walsh struck the first goal, but the score of the half came in the 12th minutes when Galway’s u-21 star Shane Walsh intercepted inside his own fifty line and soloed the length of the field to fire a magnificent score, giving Boston hope.
However a succession of Donnellan frees gave the Oughterard side a commanding 1-10 to 0-04 half-time lead.
Boston, however, staged a comeback and battled their way back into contention with scores from Shane Walsh (2 ), Comer (2 ), John Cullen and Christopher St John.
Kevin Walsh lifted the siege for Electrical Concepts before Cathal McSweeney secured the title when he rifled home with six minutes remaining.
Electrical Concepts play the Roscommon champions in the Connacht semi final.
