COPE Galway is calling on the people of Galway to volunteer this Christmas.
The charity has a number of fundraising events coming up to Christmas which will provide much-needed funds for its services to vulnerable members of the community.
COPE is holding a collection day on December 24 in Galway city, and also needs volunteers to held supervise the annual Galway sleep-out with the students from Colaiste Iognaid on December 23 from 6pm on Shop St. On Christmas Day, COPE will hold its annual swim in Blackrock between 10am and1pm.
David Muldoon of COPE Galway says Christmas is a time when members of the commuity want to help those less fortunate.
“Christmas is coming around quickly and COPE Galway is busy trying to raise funds for our vital services in Galway. At this time of year, people often want to give something back. Two hours of volunteering at a fundraising event can make a big difference as it helps raise money that will be used all year round to support the most vulnerable in Galway,” he says.
“We really need support this Christmas and that’s why we are asking people to give us a few hours of their time in the lead up to Christmas and help make these events successful.”
COPE Galway provides services to the most isolated in the community, including a refuge for women and children affected by domestic violence, accommodation and support services for those experiencing homelessness, and meals and social supports for older people living in their own homes.
