Free Baboró workshops and live music at Continental Christmas Market

The Galway Continental Christmas Market which officially opened last Friday evening is not just a mecca for festive shoppers but is providing a new venue for family entertainment in Galway city.

For the younger market goers, Baboró will be running free workshops every Saturday (with the exception of Saturday December 21 ) and Sunday of the market duration from 12 noon to 2pm and from 4pm to 6pm on the main market stage.

Baboró’s ‘The Beast is Back’ makes a welcome return after its run during the Baboró festival in October giving children a chance to engage in wacky science experiments.

The Baboró workshops are concepts that have been drawn directly from the International Children's Arts Festival and adapted for Christmas. Children are invited to join artist Jenny McKenna for free workshops where they can make their very own tiny wish. Baboró will then fill the wall with wishes that will grow each week until the stage walls come alive with lights and everyone's special vision of the spirit of Christmas.

The market’s main stage will also play host to a variety of musical talents and sounds throughout the duration of the market, kicking off on Friday November 29 at 6pm with Rofi James playing a hearty mix of covers brought to you by an energetic three piece act consisting of bass, guitar, and cajon. Following at 7pm will be Galway Community College who will play a mix of original tracks by the college's music performance class.

Aerach, with a mix of country and traditional sounds, will play the market stage at 6pm this Saturday November 30. Sunday December 1 sees the band Fusion, a Spanish influenced mix of traditional and jazz, play a two hour set on the main market stage followed later in the evening by local singer/songwriter Aidan Breen at 6pm, wowing with tracks from his 32 counties in 32 days tour this year. The Windmill House at the top of the plaza will host the cover band from Athlone, Macey South, who will be rocking out the top of the square from 6pm until 8pm.

All events at the market are free of charge. For more information, log on to www.galwaychristmasmarket.ie or see www.facebook.com/galwaycontinentalchristmasmarket .
