Open Knocknacarra Community Centre on more days, urges Burke

People in Knocknacarra have waited too long for the new community centre to open for it to be “left idle for any period of time”.

This is the view of Fianna Fáil Galway City West candidate David Burke, who is calling on the Galway City Council to ensure the Knocknacarra Community Centre is made “fully available to the local community”. The centre remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

While acknowledging the financial constraints within which the city council operates, Mr Burke said: “Investigating the type of staffing supports which can be attained from FÁS schemes such as Le Cheile and Tus should be an immediate priority to ensure the community centre is available on a full-time basis.”

Mr Burke also called for a local community management structure to be established to oversee the future development of the community centre which he believes could act as a hub for facilities and services in Knocknacarra.
