Huge interest in city properties at O’Donnellan & Joyce auction

O’Donnellan & Joyce’s auction attracted enormous interest on Friday last when the agent placed 18 properties under the hammer. The auction, which was held in the Harbour Hotel, attracted interest locally, nationally, and internationally with significant interest from Irish people overseas who viewed the auction live online on the agent’s website www.odonnjoyce.com The auction room was packed to capacity with standing room only.

The highlight of the afternoon was the sale of a property at No 9 St John’s Terrace, a three/four bedroom terraced residence in need of refurbishment located just off Henry Street in the city centre. The agent was guiding €130,000 for this home, and the bidding opened at €120,000 with a number of individuals chasing the property. Bids increased in increments of €5,000, then reduced to bids of €1,000 until finally two individuals remained with bids increasing in increments of €500. After more than 40 bids the hammer came down at €172,000 to a delighted purchaser. This highlights the huge demand there is for city centre properties.

The next property that attracted enormous interest was a four bedroom detached residence at No 21 Woodlands Park, Moycullen, Co Galway, a family home in superb condition throughout within walking distance of the village. The property was guiding at €285,000 and bidding opened at €260,000 with three individuals chasing the property. The bidding was finally down to two individuals who were increasing in increments of €1,000 and €2,000, again after nearly 40 bids the property was sold at a tremendous price of €329,000.

The third property of the afternoon was No 10 Cul An Aith, Barna, a four bedroom terraced residence located within walking distance of Barna village. The property was guiding at €220,000 and attracted huge interest on the day with a number of purchasers anxious to secure it. After a period of rapid bidding the property was sold for €277,000, which was well in excess of the AMV of €220,000.

There were two properties in Athenry on offer on the day, both in rural locations and in need of refurbishment throughout, one located at Gloves, Athenry, and the second at Lenamore, Athenry. These properties had very attractive guide prices of €20,000 each.
