THE VIEW may still look like cheeky young scamps, but the band are fast approaching a decade old, and 2013 finds them looking back and towards the future.
The Dundee quartet play the Róisín Dubh on Monday December 2 at 8pm as part of their current British and Irish tour.
The View came to attention in 2006 with their Libertines influenced album Hats Off To The Buskers, full of slice o’life mini-dramas, like the single ‘Same Jeans’.
The follow-ups, Which Bitch? (2009 ) and Bread and Circuses (2010 ) did not have the same impact and soon after the band parted ways with 1965 Records to sign to Cooking Vinyl.
The Scots then returned last year with their fourth album, Cheeky For A Reason, recorded with producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Foals ). It went Top 10 and received numerous glowing reviews (including four stars from Q ). The View went on to win Best Album 2012 at the Sunday Mail’s Great Scotland Awards and Album of the Year 2012 at The Scottish Music Awards
So what to do next? The band - Kyle Falconer, Kieren Webster, Pete Reilly, Steven Morrison - wanted to create a setlist album – all the tracks they enjoy playing live and a recap for the territories that they are now touring which they have not played previously. Hence the release of the compilation album, Seven Year Setlist.
“Over the years there’s been four studio albums, thousands of gigs, way too much vodka, but loads of memories on this crazy journey,” says Kyle. “So we wanted to create an album that was kinda like stopping and looking back over the years plus we’ve written a few new tracks too.”
