Claregalway ladies have booked a place in the Tesco Home Grown All Ireland Ladies Intermediate Club Football final against Thomas Davies of Dublin.
The Galway side enjoyed a convincing 5-13 to 0-12 win over Boherbue of Cork in Tuam Stadium on Sunday.
The Cork ladies started the better and should have been a goal up inside the first minute, but Hannah Coen produced a fine save in the Claregalway goal to keep the sides leval.
Boherbue then raced into a 0-4 t 0-1 lead before Claregalway settled and points from Ciara Newell, Dierdre Brennan, Michelle Dunleavy and Ciara Burke produced a lead they never lost.
Operating at half-forward, Brennan began to cause the Cork side problems and it was her hard work that led to Charlotte Cooney scoring the home side’s first goal in the 21st minute. More points from Ciara Burke and Michelle Dunleavy, and a goal from Dierdre Brennan, saw Claregalway close the half with a 2-07 to 0-06 lead.
Ciara Burke opened the second half scoring with her third point, but Boherbue reduced the gap by scoring the next three without reply. However Ciara Newell calmed the Galway girls’ nerves by scoring their third goal, while another Burke point and one from sub Louise Brennan ensured there was no way back for the Cork side.
Charlotte Cooney and Ciara Newell scored their second goals to cap off a great day for the girls from the west and they ran out easy winners in the end.
