Galway WFC needs to refocus after dip in form

Galway WFC face into a busy week with two matches in three days in National League action.

Galway will have expectations of a return to winning form when on Sunday they travel to Cork to take on the bottom side in the league. Then just over 48 hours later they visit Castlebar to take on in-form CastlebarCeltic on Tuesday night under lights in a rescheduled fixture due to Celtic’s involvement in the FAI Cup final.

This should prove a tough, but fascinating battle with a number of the Galway players having previously lined out for the Mayo side.

After a bright start to their inaugural league campaign, Galway have stuttered in their last few matches, and last Sunday was the first time they failed to score. In a rainswept Eamonn Deacy Park, they went down 0-3 to DLR Waves, and manager Nigel Keady will need to ensure his players are focused for these back-to-back fixtures on the road.

Disappointed by the performance on Sunday, Keady said: “It was a bad day at the office all round. We never really put on sustained pressure in the opposition half and also gave away some soft goals.

“We have learnt a lot from these last few games and hopefully we can now get back on track rekindling some of our early season form.”
