The sporting and political communities will join forces this evening to honour former Galway mayor Henry O’Connor who passed away this week.
The 67-years-old, who was the mayor of the city in 1993, was a keen sportsmen who was actively involved in a number of sporting organisations.
A former Gaelic footballer, Henry O’Connor played with Fr Griffin’s GAA Club and became its chairman in the seventies.
In addition he was involved in athletics, and played rugby with Galway city club Corinthians FC.
Henry O’Connor’s removal from Irwins Funeral Home takes place this evening at 7.30pm to St Patrick’s Church, Forster Street, with Requiem Mass on Friday at 11am.
