The Galway Filipino-Irish Community will hold a number of events to raise funds for aid work in the Philippines, still reeling from the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan.
Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines on November 8, has left nearly 4,000 dead, 900,000 displaced, and on the island of Leyte, some 70 to 80 per cent of structures reduced to rubble.
In response, the Galway Filipino-Irish Community and Guardians Brotherhood of Ireland have been organising events to raise funds for the Philippine Irish Red Cross and the Sagip Kapamilya ABS-CBN Foundation.
Tomorrow, the GFIC will hold a tea/coffee morning at the Menlo Park Hotel from 10am to 12 noon, sponsored by the hotel. There will be a cake sale at the Bon Secours Hospital, led by Jennifer Codyre, from 9am.
On Saturday, there will be a second tea/coffee event at the g Hotel. This is an all day event sponsored by the hotel. Sunday will see a tea/coffee event at the Ardilaun House Hotel from 10am to 12 noon, sponsored by the hotel.
Pierhead Restaurant, The Quay, Kinvara, will hold a ‘Night of Music for a Cause’, sponsored by Michael Burke. Tickets are €10 and includes finger foods and a glass of wine or beer.
Last weekend, the Filipino community held a variety of fundraising events.
