The Galway Baytones have become a sort of an institution in the city and country, through their joyous performances in aid of many charities and events over the past few years.The male voice A cappella group was formed in 2008 and they are currently eleven in number.
The group was formed out of a great interest in four-part harmony singing. Not to be confused with barbershop singing, A cappella singing covers a wider range of music and the melody line can be sung by any of the four parts, bass, baritone, tenor and high tenor.
"We enjoy singing enormously and we think our enjoyment transfers to our audience. It's infectious!" says one of the tenors in the group. Gary Browne. “The Baytones have sung in a wide variety of events, mostly but not all, charitable. Our musical coach is the well known Galway musician Ronan De Burca.
“We have performed all over the city and county. One of our proudest moments was when we sang at Aras An Uachtarain in 2012 shortly after the inauguration of President Higgins" The Baytones have even appeared on the popular TV programme Come Dine With Me,” he said..
However, now the group is seeking some new members, particularly in the tenor lines so if you have always wanted to give this a try, they would love to hear from you.
An ability to read music is not essential, just a passion for singing.
