Rev Harcourt Klinefelter, a former aide to Martin Luther King during the civil rights struggle in the USA, will be speaking in Galway tomorrow.
Rev Klinefelter, who was assistant director of public relations to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference from 1965 to 1969, will be speaking at a memorial service to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of president John F Kennedy.
The event, which is being organised by Democrats Abroad, is taking place at the Galway City Museum Plaza, Spanish Arch, tomorrow from 1pm to 1.45pm.
Rev Klinefelter will speak about JFK’s contribution to and support of the civil rights movement and the overall legacy of his administration and family. Also participating in the service will be the colour guard of the Irish United Nations Veterans Association; there will be readings from poets Kevin Higgins and Susan Millar DuMars, and a reflection by Larry Donnelly, lecturer at NUI Galway, and former legal counsel of Democrats Abroad Ireland.
All are welcome to attend the memorial service.
