Boundary pushing trad at Monroe’s Live

“IF COLDPLAY decided to replace Chris Martin with a concertina” is the strange, if fascinating, manner in which Notify have been described.

Notify, the new trad-crossover project from Pádraig Rynne (Guidewires, Triad ), play Monroe’s Live tomorrow at 8pm.

Rynne is one of Ireland’s leading concertina players and will be joined by Joe Dart (bass ), Tyler Duncan (guitar ), and Mike Shimmin (drums ), who recently toured with Aretha Franklin.

The band’s influences range from Sigur Ros to Mogwai to Irish trad and jazz, to create music lush musical tapestries that build from soft melodies to crashing crescendos.

Meanwhile, in the Backstage Bar, local singer Sandra Coffey will perform melodic rock from her debut album Morning Zoo.

Tickets are €15 and are available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
