A Saudi girl and a bicycle

WAJADA, THE first full-length feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, and winner of the CICAE Award at the Venice Film Festival 2012, will be shown in Galway.

Wajada will be screened by the Galway Film Society in the Town Hall Theatre this Sunday at 8.15pm.

After a fight with her friend Abdullah, Wadjda sees a green bicycle for sale. She wants the bicycle so she can beat Abdullah in a race. Wadjda’s mother will not allow it, fearing repercussions from a society that sees bicycles as dangerous to a girl’s virtue. So Wadjda decides to try to raise the money herself by competing in a Qur’an recitation competition at her school.

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
