Bingo for Ballybane hope full houses will benefit community

Local charity SCCUL Enterprises has today launched a novel initiative to raise funds for community development project.

Starting next Sunday, Bingo for Ballybane will take place in Ballybane Resource Centre with proceeds remaining in the local community to assist with identified projects. With a prize fund of €2,000, the monthly bingo sessions are set to attract bingo fans from all over the city to compete for the €750 jackpot.

The initiative is the brainchild of Michael Smyth, new manager of Ballybane Enterprise Centre.

Speaking this week, Mr Smyth said that he had been looking for a fundraising initiative for the local community that would engage and entertain members of the local community.

“It is all about having fun and supporting local projects. Bingo is a very popular activity among many of our local community as it’s a great social night. Many of the older members of the community who live alone look forward to their bingo games and they enjoy the company and the cup of tea as much as the winning. This initiative brings bingo to our local community and at the same time helps to progress community projects as the funds raised will be staying in the local community.

He has already identified his first project from the proceeds of Bingo for Ballybane.

“The wall surrounding the Ballybane Church needs to be repaired and it takes funding to do it. We are hoping to start the repairs on Monday next and have it completed in time for Christmas.

Commenting on Bingo for Ballybane Liam Bluett general manager of SCCUL Enterprises said, “ In SCCUL Enterprises our motto is of the community and for the community. This project ticks all those boxes - I know it will be well supported by people from Ballybane and other areas as bingo has a universal appeal.

‘Bingo for Ballybane’ commences this Sunday November 17 in Ballybane Resource Centre. Doors open at 6.30pm with bingo starting at 7pm. One book is €6, a double €10 and the jackpot card is €2. Tea and coffee will be served.
