Theatre and social media

SOCIAL MEDIA, be it Twitter or Facebook, are, like the theatre stage, a performance space where people ‘perform’ versions of themselves to the outside world.

This is the central argument of a public lecture to be delivered by Professor Patrick Lonergan, personal professor in drama and theatre studies at NUI Galway.

The lecture, entitled Irish Theatre and Social Media/Social Media as Irish Theatre will be given in the Galway City Library on Augustine Street at 6.30pm on Wednesday November 13.

Prof Lonergan will consider how authors and major theatre companies, such as the Abbey Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, are using social media to interact in new ways with audiences.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
