New COPE Galway shop to provide funds for increased demand in services

COPE Galway have announced the opening of their new charity shop on St Augustine St., Galway. The shop will provide vital funds for COPE Galway and all proceeds from the shop will help deliver front-line services to vulnerable and isolated people in Galway city and county.

The new COPE Galway shop, managed by Grace Light, sells high quality second hand clothes, accessories, jewellery, books and bric-a-brak. ‘We would like to thank all our volunteers, donors and customers for supporting us in our new venture and helping to provide a new source of income for our local services’ says Ms Light.

‘The proceeds from the shop will make a real difference in people’s lives and support our work locally in the areas of homelessness, domestic violence and services for older people’.

COPE Galway is a local Galway charity operating since the 1970s that provides services to those isolated in our community – including sustenance and social supports for older people, a refuge and outreach for women and children affected by domestic violence and accommodation and support services for men, women and families experiencing homelessness.

COPE Galway has seen as increase in demand for their services recently with the recession affecting the most vulnerable in our community. ‘This increase is not surprising, but is of great concern’ says Martin O’Connor, Assistant CEO of COPE Galway. ‘The impact of cuts in social welfare and other public services year on year is taking its toll, and the most vulnerable in our society are being impacted’.

The COPE Galway shop will be depending on the goodwill and generosity of the people of Galway for donations and will accept new and quality used ladies’, gents’ and children's clothes. Also accepted are shoes, books, jewellery and household non electrical items; good quality goods in saleable condition that will help raise funds for COPE Galway.
