Galway City Comhairle na nÓg invites young people to AGM

Galway City Comhairle na nÓg will hold its AGM on November 12 in the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square and it is encouraging young people to attend.

Comhairle na nÓg provides a forum for young people aged 12-18 to identify and work on issues of importance to them before working with key local decisions-makers in a bid to achieve their desired outcome, impact or change. The Comhairle na nÓg AGM is one of the first steps in that process, bringing together young people from throughout the city to identify and prioritise these topics of importance.

Comhairlí na nÓg are local youth councils designed to give children and young people the ‘right to have his or her voice heard’ by being involved in the development of local services and policies. There is a Comhairle na nÓg in each of the 34 City/County Development Board areas. It is advised that young people are marked present at school should they attend the event with permission from parent and school.

Attendance of young people nominated to attend by the school will be checked at registration the morning of the event to ensure they have arrived with permission.

The day will have some fun elements and lunch will be provided. The committee will talk about last year’s project on anti-bullying and report back on their youth exchange during the summer. It is also a great opportunity to find out about Comhairle na nÓg and get involved in discussions on things that matter to young people.

If you are aged 12-18 or know young people in that age group interested in attending please get in contact with the coordinator on 091 561637 or 087 6595534.
