ACT for Meningitis teams up with Samaritans for celeb soccer match to raise funds and awareness

ACT with Samaritans is a joint venture between ACT for Meningitis and Samaritans Galway who for one evening have joined forces together to host a Celebrity Soccer Match at Deacy Park on Friday November 29 7.30pm. As well as raising money for both charities the aim of the event is to raise the profile of both organizations and to encourage people to come forward and seek support.

ACT for Meningitis s a non-profit organisation based in Galway, Ireland. It was established in 2011 by Siobhán and Noel Carroll, who in 2008 lost their precious daughter Aoibhe (4 ) to meningitis. Nobody should face the journey alone after being affected by meningitis. ACT for Meningitis was founded to offer support to everyone affected by meningitis while also raising awareness of this life changing disease.

Samaritans is also a not for profit organisation and is wholly led and directed by volunteers, ordinary people who give their time to offer support to those in need of emotional care. There are as many reasons as there are people in the world as to why people contact Samaritans and nobody knows how events in life can affect us , but one thing we do know is that talking, naming your worst fears, opening up, speaking your true feelings, talking to someone, talking to a Samaritan can, does, and will continue to help overcome the all consuming thoughts that anxiety and suicidal feelings can bring.

The Celebrity Soccer Match at Deacy Park promises to be a great occasion and the main sponsor of the event is Galway’s natural health company Lifes2good.

The line up to date includes Hector O Heochagain. Packie Bonner, Eric Elwood , RTE’s Tony O’Donoghue, John O Dowd. Declan Varley, editor, Galway Advertiser, Paul “ski”Mc Gee and hurler Ollie Canning as well several stars of Fair City including ‘Decco Bishop’ with many more surprise celebrities to be announced.

Tickets cost €10 euro each with u16s free and are available from O’Briens Newsagent, 22 William Street, Galway and also at the office of ACT for Meningitis 6A Liosbaun Industrial Estate, TuamRooad, Galway. Tickets are also available at your local city and county football clubs.
