THE MUSIC of Albéniz, Beethoven, and Schubert, and the world première of a new piece by Jane O’Lear,y will be performed by Ah Ruem Ahm in Galway next week.
The Korean pianist, winner of the Silver Medal at the XVII Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, plays the next Music For Galway concert in the Aula Maxima, NUIG, on Thursday November 14 at 8pm.
Ah Ruem Ahn will perform Albéniz’s Iberia Book 1, Beethoven’s Sonata in A ?at major, Op 110, and Schubert’s Sonata in G major, D 894. She will also give the world première of Jane O’Leary’s ‘Five Bagatelles’, commissioned by Music for Galway with funds from the Arts Council. Ms O’Leary will be present to introduce the work.
Born in Suwon, Korea, 1984, Ah Ruem Ahn started her music studies at the Kaywon Secondary School for the Arts and went on to the Yonsei University in Seoul obtaining a degree in music.
She has won numerous awards, including the Stefano Marizza (Trieste ) International Piano Prize and first prizewinner at the Smetana International Competition (Pilsen ). In January 2013 she made her successful debut in Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall in New York.
