So wrote the late, great, concert pianist and music critic Charles Rosen about Belgian cellist David Cohen. Yehudi Menuhin was another admirer, calling him, “a remarkable young man, a remarkable performer, and an outstanding cellist.”
Cohen is coming to Galway to play a Music for Galway concert. He will perform on his 18th century Ex-Pergamenschikow cello, accompanied by Ukrainian pianist Sasha Grynyuk, in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway, at 8pm on Wednesday October 30.
Cohen will perform Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, D 821; Britten’s celebrated Sonata in C Op 65; and Schnittke’s Suite in the Old Style.
The concert will also hear the Irish première of Ian Wilson’s ‘The Little Spanish Prison’, a piece commissioned by David Cohen. Ian Wilson will be present to introduce the work.
