Common Tongues - Villagers are fans

VILLAGERS’ CONOR O’Brien is a fan of Brighton band Common Tongues, as is British TV presenter Dermot O’Leary. Galway will see why this Saturday at 8.30pm.

The band was formed in 2010 by Tom Anderson and Oli Hinkins and released their first single, ‘Jumping Ships’ in 2011, the band have gigged intensively, playing Bestival, the Cambridge Folk Festival, and the London FolkFest; appeared on BBC and RTÉ Radio, and been compared to Villagers, The Doors, and Bright Eyes.

For their part, the band describe their influences as “the records our dads used to play when we were little”. Their sound deals in plaintive acoustic tracks which weave intricate vocals around delicate guitar and sparse violin and piano.

Support is from Toy Soldier. Tickets are €10 and available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
