FOR 11 years Strange Brew has championed “indie beats, alternative rock and good vibrations” and this month it celebrates it’s 555th night.
To mark this milestone - or “the second most evil number” according to Strange Brew founder Gugai - there will be a major celebration and Hallowe’en Party in the Róisín Dubh on Thursday October 31 at 8pm.
Headliners are The Cast Of Cheers who have seriously impressed with their hard hitting and energetic mix of post-rock, indie, and guitar workouts. Their albums Chariots and Home have received considerable critical acclaim.
Dublin trio Squarehead - Roy Duffy (singer/guitarist ), Ian McFarlane (bass ), and Ruan Van Vliet (drums ) - play an infectious brand of indie, full of vibes and vocals that scream surf rock, but offset by a rough around the edges garage rock feel.
Singer-songwriter Elaine Mai uses loop pedals and effects to make her solo acoustic guitar work and superb vocals sound like a full band and choir. So Cow is a trio led by Tuam singer-songwriter Brian Kelly who plays music that ranges from short, sharp punk, to clever, melodically inventive indie-pop.
One of the most exciting new bands to have emerged recently are Boyfights whose driving, indie-rock sound, shows hints of The Breeders and the Pixies.
Also on the bill are Adultrock, Zero Era, and Derek Ellard. The Strange Brew 555th is a fancy dress party and there will be prizes for best costumes.
