Moycullen face UCD Marian in first home game

Moycullen basketball play their first home game of the season on Saturday and are looking forward to another special occasion in front of their boisterous fans.

After two tough away games against the league and cup champions, Moycullen are up against UCD Marian on Saturday at 8.15pm in NUIG Kingfisher.

However coach Salva Camps will be hoping his young team can put together a solid performance and, if they can take the good aspects of the two previous performances, they should have a great chance in front of their home fans.

They will be hoping for a better start than they had last weekend against Neptune, who opened up a 10-point lead with some easy scores.

A three from Dylan Cunningham, who had another excellent game, settled the team, and with Stephen O’Brien hitting some great scores and Mike Callaghan once again working tirelessly on defence, they cut the gap to six at the end of the first quarter.

An improvement in their transition defence, in particular from Eoghan Maxwell, led to Neptune being frustrated on offence, and, with Ronan O’Sullivan finding his range, Moycullen drew level midway through the quarter. However Neptune responded well and led by four at the break.

The second half was nip and tuck all the way with Moycullen always within touching distance - the end of the third saw the gap at nine points.

However some calls that went Neptune’s way helped them hit four threes in the last two minutes for a flattering 88 - 68 victory.

Moycullen: Michael Callaghan (19 ), Dylan Cunningham (16 ), Stephen O’Brien (12 ), Ronan O’Sullivan (11 ), Eoghan Maxwell (4 ), Paul O’Brien (6 ), Tomas Gilson, Darragh Mulkerrins, Gerald Lyons, Ian Burke, Nollaig Cunningham, Evan Costelloe.
