Galway tourism to benefit from Budget says Walsh

Close to 20 tourist destinations in County Galway have received a major boost from Budget 2014 with the Wild Atlantic Way tourism project set to benefit from the sale of the National Lottery licence.

The project is intended to incorporate tourist attractions along the western seaboard in a route stretching from Donegal to Cork, which will be promoted collectively in overseas and domestic tourism markets.

Attractions in Galway that have been incorporated on the route at this stage of the process, are Rinville Park, Salthill promenade, Silverstrand, Céibh an Spidéal, Céibh an tSrútháin, Trá Geal, Leitir Mór Causeway, Gort Mór, Oileán Finis, Gorteen Bay, Bunowen Bay, Derrigimlagh, Sky Road, Omey Island, Inishbofin, Crump Island View, and Killary Harbour.

The move has been welcomed by Galway West TD Brian Walsh who said the “prioritisation of the Wild Atlantic Way project in the Budget represents a major boost for Galway”. He believes it will “result in an increase in visitor numbers in Galway”, improve infrastructure between destinations, and encourage tourists to explore more remote areas of Galway.

It is expected the project will be ready to launch in March 2014 and Fáilte Ireland will continue beyond that to assist businesses operating in locations along the route.
