Loughrea too strong for Beagh

The first game in Kenny Park on Sunday was a bit of an anti-climax as a hugely experienced Loughrea outfit were far too strong for a Beagh team that never really got to the required pace of the game.

Beaten finalists last season, Loughrea advanced to another final easily - by 2-18 to 1-11. After Johnny O' Loughlin and county defender Johnny Coen hit two first-half goals, the writing was on the wall for the Beagh men who were a long way behind at half time.

Neil Keary hit 0-11 for the town, who will contest their fourth county final in five years when they face either Portumna or St Thomas on October 27 at Pearse Stadium. The last time Loughrea won the county title was in 2006 (their second senior title ), when they narrowly defeated Portumna by 1-13 to 0-15. After county final defeats in 2009, 2010 and last year, they will be flat out to produce the goods in this year's final and put that run of final defeats to an end.
