Two arrested after city stabbing

A man and a woman were arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning following a stabbing incident in an housing estate on the Headford Road.

It is understood that the man, aged in his 30s, and the women, aged in her 40s, were arrested soon at the scene of the stabbing which took place at Ard an Coiste some time between 12.30am and 1am Wednesday, October 9.

The injured party, a woman aged in her 30s and believed to be a native of County Clare, received a stab wound to her abdomen and was taken to University Hospital Galway where her condition is said to be critical but stable.

The man and woman arrested in connection with the stabbing were brought to Millstreet Garda Station for questioning.

At time of going to press, a spokesperson for Millstreet Garda Station confirmed that the two are still being held at the station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and that no decision had yet been made in relation to charges being brought against them.

Gardai recovered a knife at the scene and this is now being forensically examined. However Galway gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward or for anyone with information to contact them in the incident room on 091 538070.
