HE STARTED early, getting his first keyboard aged five, and now 15 years later, he stands as one of the most intriguing and original of Irish electronic musicians.
MMOTHS (aka Jack Colleran ) is coming back to the Róisín Dubh to play Strange Brew on Thursday October 10 at 9pm.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed praise from Nialler9 and the BBC and secured a support slot with the XX on their 2012 British tour, but his career began in his native Newbridge, County Kildare, when, at five, he was given a keyboard from his mother. Later, he saved up for a bass.
“I still have that bass,” he says. “I didn’t want to learn from someone else. I like discovering things on my own. I want to experience it on my own.”
After secondary school he settled in Dublin and over the last year he has released several singles, remixes, and a critically praised debut EP and its follow up, Diaries, which came out in March.
MMOTHS live shows feature two other musicians and live instrumentation, translating his intimate, studio tracks into something larger.
Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG, Shop Street (formerly Zhivago ), and The Róisín Dubh.
