Fabulous food demos lined up for Oyster Festival

This year’s Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival will feature a series of fabulous food demos from a host of culinary experts.

Michelin star chef, Kevin Thornton will be making magic with Irish ingredients on both Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 when he will judge the Hot Oyster Awards Professional Cooking challenge.

On Saturday 28, Birgitta Curtin from the Burren Smokehouse will kick off the Siemens Kitchen at 2pm and will be followed by Imen McDonnell also known as ‘Modern Farmette’ to fans of her award winning blog.

Imen is an American home cook and food writer living in rural Ireland. In a former life, she spent her days working in television/media production in the USA, and now resides on a farm in the Irish countryside with her husband and son.

She shares stories of farm life and seasonal food on her popular blog, Farmette.ie, and in her weekly Country Living Modern Farmette column in the Irish Farmers Journal. Imen’s recipes and adventures have been featured in The New York Times, The Irish Times, The Sunday Times (UK ) The Los Angeles Times, The Huffington Post, Saveur Magazine and more.

To sate your curiosity, Diarmuid Kelly of Kelly Oysters will also be taking to the Siemens Kitchen on Saturday to guide patrons through the two types of oysters available on Irish shores, rock v native.

Sunday’s line-up includes a masterclass for Kids with Maria Conboy from GMIT and 10 lucky children will win a place accompanied by an adult to indulge their creativity as well as the Best of the West Cook Off Final..
