Galway writer launches new book

WHEN A long-lost aunt bequeaths a mysterious golden cross to Amanda Morrison, a strange series of events ensues, taking her back to Mediaeval Ireland and the downfall of the Spanish Armada.

This is The Cross Of Santiago, the debut novel by Galway writer Evie Gaughan, which was launched for the Kindle this week. A time-slip novel, it ranges from contemporary Ireland to the late 1500’s when much of the ill-fated Armada was wrecked off the coast of Ireland, as Amanda seeks to find the truth about her family’s past and the secret to an ancient love story.

“I wanted to write a novel with two different time lines,” said the author, “drawing parallels between the past and the present and exploring how the past’s legacy can influence our lives.”

Evie has written articles for Galway Now, while her creative writing has been published in the 2005 Cúirt Anthology. She will be taking her novel on a two-week virtual book tour from October 1.
