Be illuminated for Culture Night

CULTURE NIGHT on Friday September 20 will see the opening of the public art project Illuminate at 6pm at the Nun’s Island Theatre.

Illuminate is the result of a year long public art project by artist Ruby Wallis and engineer Gerard Glynn, and commissioned by Galway County Council. Wallis and Glynn spent this year making work alongside The Brothers of Charity That’s Life arts programme.

The exhibition explores how digital media can create virtual spaces in which people can explore their identity and physical presence. The participants included people with mild to severe intellectual disabilities and autism. Participants engaged in the process of drawing with light through whole body movement and improvised dance patterns.

Each participant was invited to take part and respond to the process in their own individual way, responses ranged from small hand gestures to large physical gestures.

There will be a panel discussion on the exhibition on Thursday September 26 at 6.30pm. Illuminate is open from 12 noon to 6pm daily.
