Debut short story collection from Aileen Armstrong

END OF DAYS, the debut short story collection from the Galway based, Sligo born, writer Aileen Armstrong, will be launched next week.

The collection, published by County Galway based publishing company Doire Press, will be launched on Saturday September 14 in the Galway Arts Centre. The guest speaker will be The Stinging Fly’s Declan Meade.

The stories in End Of Days are set during the period 1998 to the present day, in locations ranging from Ireland to France, and draw on Ms Armstrong experience of the hospitality sector in both countries.

At the heart of the collection is Marianne, a wandering dilettante. However they feature an international network of friends and business contacts with the connections between the characters emerging gradually.

Ms Armstrong entered the Doire Press Fiction Chapbook Competition in 2012. Doire Press founders Lisa Frank and John Walsh were so impressed by her writing they offered her publication of a full-length collection.

“Aileen’s writing is fresh and there is certainly a European feel about the way she delineates her characters and chooses her words,” said John Walsh. “There is a sensuousness to her language that adds a poetic feel to her fiction. Her writing reminds me of the young German author Judith Hermann.”

All are welcome to the launch. For more information email [email protected]. End Of Days costs €12 and is available from all good bookstores through Argosy distributors and on-line at www.doirepress.com
