Daily clinics for farmers on the new Common Agricultural Policy and other related issues will be held at the National Ploughing Championships.
Galway West TD and Fianna Fáil agriculture spokesperson Éamon Ó Cuív TD, has announced that the Fianna Fáil tent at the championships will hold the clinics. The tent will be located at Block 3, Row U, Stand 344 and a panel of experts and TDs will be available for consultation between 11am and 4pm.
Dep Ó Cuív said that as well as providing advice to farmers, the clinics will seek to “consult with farmers on budget options and these discussions will contribute to the party's position ahead of next month’s budget”.
Dep Ó Cuív has also written to the chair of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee seeking its input into the implementation of the CAP agreement.
“It is vital that no decision is made by Minister Simon Coveney before he hears the views of the Agriculture Committee,” he said. “Farming groups and experts should also be afforded an opportunity to be brought in to the Committee as witnesses.”
