Athenry roots-rock trio The Deans have won the Rock Category of the US based Unsigned Only Music Competition 2013 for their song ‘Lonely Like Me’.
The band’s song was chosen by a panel of judges that included the legendary Iggy Pop, as well as Chrissie Hynde and Cyndi Lauper.
“It was a shock at first, but we are thrilled to have received this award,” says band lead vocalist and guitarist Gavin Dean. “We would like to thank Unsigned Only, the judges and our fans for their unwavering support.”
The win comes just ahead of the trio’s US tour later this month and follows a busy summer for The Deans with tours of France, Spain, and Ireland, including a show at the Galway Arts Festival supporting The Arcady Experience.
Unsigned Only founders Candace Avery and Jim Morgan said: “With more than 9,000 entries from all over the world, the competition was so competitive, and the finalists impressed the judges with the immense talent displayed.”
