Five players from Colga FC have been added to the Galway Women’s FC ahead of their national league tie with with Cork in Deacy Park on Sunday (2pm ).
Marian Murray, Keara Cormican, Leah Philips, Susie Cunningham and Alana Moran were all involved in Colga’s FAI Intermediate Cup run which saw them defeated by Douglas Hall FC by 1-0 in the final, and they are now available to join Galway’s new national league outfit.
Manager Nigel Keady said: “We are delighted to finally be able to able to sign these players, their success with Colga had delayed their signing until this week.”
The five, all with Galway and District League and Cup medals, are a welcome addition to the squad which has seen many players on the treatment table after the opening two weeks of the Bus Éireann Women’s National League.
The newly-formed Galway outfit opened their campaign with a satisfactory 2-2 draw with Wexford, but lost 3-2 to DLR Waves two weeks ago. They now face a Cork side that is struggling to post its first win, and Keady is hoping for a big turnout in Eamonn Deacy Park for this fixture.
“The home crowd were a big factor in helping us come from behind twice in our opening home game. I have no doubt that we will see many of those supporters return on Sunday along with many more who will be attracted by the quality of football on display.”
